Can a civil engineer get a job in the IT sector? What courses should one do?

It seems that whenever the job market for civil engineering is down, we get poured with such queries. Instead of directly posting on the forum, we get such emails often.

This one particular question caught my attention. A couple of years back we had a discussion on mechanical engineers not getting core sector jobs and opting for IT industry and now civil engineers are wanting to do the same.

Has any of you come across such a question? What do you think a civil engineer can do to enter the IT industry? Are there any jobs for civil engineers in IT companies?

I've started doing some research on this and will soon post a reply of my own. Till then, looking forward to reading your comments.
